Dental Implants Near Cumberland
Restoring your smile can do wonders for your appearance and self-confidence, and no other dental restoration does it better than dental implants. If you have lost teeth or have teeth that need to be removed, dental implants may be an option to replace those teeth and give you a healthy, beautiful smile again. Wayne Suway, DDS, MAGD, D.ABDSM, has over 25 years of experience restoring smiles for our patients from Cumberland, Windy Hill and other communities around Atlanta.
Dental implants are the closest representation of natural teeth available, offering a permanent, non-removable solution for missing teeth. Secured surgically in the jaw bone, a dental implant mimics the appearance and function of a natural tooth. Implants can replace one or more missing teeth. They may also be used for stabilizing other dental restorations like dentures, helping improve the appearance and function of your smile.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
Dr. Suway uses a personalized approach to dental implant placement, starting with a one-on-one exam and consultation with each potential dental implant patient. The exam and consultation are designed to determine whether a person is a good candidate for the procedure and to discuss the patient’s expectations. If the patient is a viable candidate, the process continues, and a working model is created to show how the dental implants will look when completed. They will be adjusted, as needed, based on the patient’s input and Dr. Suway’s expertise.
The first phase of the dental implant procedure is to surgically place a titanium rod, or post, into the jaw bone where the new tooth will reside. The surgical site will need to heal, and usually the post must adhere to the bone before a permanent restoration can be added. However, Dr. Suway will create temporary tooth restorations that will be functional and appear natural while the implant post finishes the healing process. Once healed and the post is secured, a permanent dental crown is adhered to the post, and the new tooth is complete.
Are Dental Implants Worth the Investment?
For many people, dental implants are a vast improvement over their old teeth that were broken or diseased. The new tooth is perfectly formed and colored, functioning like a natural tooth. In comparison to dentures or bridges, dental implants offer many benefits. They stay in place and never need to be removed for maintenance. There are no worries about them slipping while eating or talking, and they look fantastic. While dental implants can cost more than other dental restorations, they are built to last a lifetime, plus their appearance and functionality make them a worthwhile investment.
Who Can Receive Dental Implants?
To undergo dental implant surgery, it is important that you are in good health and have the necessary bone and tissue to sustain the implants. Dr. Suway will use our advanced digital radiology and imaging, along with a physical exam, to ensure that you have enough bone density in the jaw and your gum tissue is healthy enough for dental implants. Even those with diminished bone in the jaw may still be candidates. However, bone grafting is usually needed to build up enough depth to secure the implant in the jaw. If you are not a good candidate for dental implants, Dr. Suway can discuss other options to restore your smile, including dentures or dental bridges.
